Whether an experienced professional or a newcomer to the job market, all are welcome to stop by the Brattleboro Union High School gymnasium, Nov. 10, to learn how to advance your career in southeastern Vermont and in the greater tri-state area.

With so many prominent employers assembled, this year’s Career Expo will be a hotbed of recruitment activity. Yet, there is way more to the Career Expo than filling out job applications. True to its name, the Career Expo is about exploring new possibilities, making new connections, and charting out the next steps of your career path.

Even if you are not searching for a job right now, you can learn more about what it is our local businesses do, the wide variety of career fields they employ workers in, and the qualifications they desire, such as preferred education credentials, job-related skills, and prior work experience. Several education providers will be on hand to provide information on program offerings that can prepare workers for occupations in demand in the local labor market. In addition, several human services agencies will be at the Career Expo to offer job search assistance and information about various work supports available in the community.

The general public is invited to attend the Career Expo between 2 and 6 p.m. New this year, the Career Expo will include a separate noon-hour session open exclusively to students enrolled in Windham County public high schools. Event planners highly recommend that attendees wear professional attire and bring several copies of their resume.

  • Apply for a new job today! Exhibiting employers will be on hand to recruit for current job openings
  • Chart your next career move! Employers also will talk with attendees about their businesses, the wide variety of occupations in which they employ workers, and the qualifications they desire in job applicants. Armed with this information, you’ll know what’s out there and what you need to do to land the career of your dreams in southern Vermont and beyond.   

Explore education and training options: Attendees lacking desired qualifications to compete for jobs in their preferred career field will have an opportunity to learn more about relevant education and training offerings of several leading education institutions.

Get advice and support: Several employment-related agencies will be on hand to offer assistance with your job searches, career development goals, and work-related needs. They can provide help with resumes, job interviews, child care needs, and financial aid.  

How to get the most out of the Career Expo   

  • Prepare your resume: have it reviewed, proofread, and critiqued so that it’s perfect (no errors!). Print multiple copies on resume paper
  • Research the companies/organizations who will be attending the event so that you can communicate intelligently with the recruiters
  • Prepare your “personal commercial.” Be ready to give company recruiters your “30-second commercial” on who you are, your experience, and your career goals
  • Be ready to ask pertinent questions to recruiters
  • Practice responses to sample interview questions
  • Go to the event! When you arrive, pick up a copy of the Expo booklet and review the floor plan of exhibitors so you’ll know where each company and organization is located
